The Brown County Democratic Party would like to address the following:
We are aware of questions from community members regarding past allegations involving one of our candidates.
The Democratic Party stands against violence of any kind.
In late fall of last year, we initiated a candidate review process. It was conducted by a 5-person volunteer team, consistent with Party procedures in place at that time.
County parties are not judicial bodies and do not determine the truth of allegations. Matters involving potential criminal conduct are properly addressed through the legal system.
Candidates, who qualify under election law, are ultimately chosen by voters. Primary elections are the mechanism through which voters determine who advances.
We understand that issues involving allegations of harm evoke deeply personal reactions, and that views can differ. We respect the seriousness with which people approach these matters.
We respect the rule of law. We strive for fairness. We appreciate community engagement conducted in good faith.
