What’s on the Ballot?

November 2024 Constitutional Amendment

Protect Our Voting Rights

VOTE NO

Voters must be prepared to answer this question on the November 5 ballot:

“Eligibility to vote. Shall section 1 of article III of the constitution, which deals with suffrage, be amended to provide that only a United States citizen age 18 or older who resides in an election district may vote in an election for national, state, or local office or at a statewide or local referendum?”

What does a “Yes” or a “No” vote mean?

  • A “yes” vote – supports the changes to the constitution. A “yes” vote indicates support for changing our state constitution to remove the guarantee that “every” U.S. citizen has the right to vote in favor of language that limits the right to vote to “only” U.S. citizens while opening the door to further limits to the right to vote.
  • A “no” vote – opposes the changes to the constitution. A “no” vote indicates support for keeping the guarantee in our state constitution that “every” U.S. citizen has the right to vote.

Reasons to Vote No on the Amendment

  1. Protect Our Voting Rights: This amendment seeks to replace the guarantee that “every” U.S. citizen can vote with language that limits it to “only” citizens. This change could pave the way for further restrictions and discriminatory practices, potentially disenfranchising many eligible voters in Wisconsin.
  2. Legislative Power Grab: The current gerrymandered legislature is attempting to manipulate voting rights ahead of a new election cycle. This is not about protecting voters but consolidating power just before Wisconsinites can choose a new legislature under fair maps.
  3. Unity Over Division: This amendment promotes division among residents rather than unity. Wisconsinites thrive when we stand together, regardless of our backgrounds. Voting against this amendment sends a clear message that we reject attempts to sow discord and disenfranchise our neighbors.

School Funding Referendums

VOTE YES

There are also school funding referendums on the ballot in Brown County in November. Here’s info on a couple referendums in De Pere and Green Bay:

De Pere School District Maintenance, Safety, and Security Referendum

On November 5, 2024, the Unified School District of De Pere will hold a referendum focused on critical maintenance and safety improvements.

A YES vote will support:

  • Essential Repairs: Fixing leaking roofs, windows, and doors.
  • Safety Enhancements: Updating entrances and exits for improved security.
  • ADA Accessibility: Making facilities accessible to all.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Repairing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.

This referendum does not involve new construction; it is solely about maintaining and securing existing buildings. Join us in advocating for this important initiative!

Green Bay Area Public School District $183 Million Capital Referendum

Also on the ballot in November 2024 is the Green Bay Area Public School District’s $183 Million Capital Referendum, aimed at enhancing safety and security in secondary schools and addressing deferred maintenance at several elementary schools.

A YES vote will support:

  • Enhanced Safety: Improving security measures across schools.
  • Deferred Maintenance: Addressing long-overdue repairs at elementary schools.
  • Equitable Learning Environments: Creating appropriate spaces for students and staff.

This referendum builds on the successes of previous referendums from April 2017 and November 2022, which have already improved secure entrances, updated facilities, and created engaging learning environments. Supporting this referendum continues the district’s commitment to improving academic outcomes.
