We need to take a stand as a Party in regard to the Green Bay City Council Finance Committee approving a resolution in support of photo ID at the polls. The Democratic Party of Brown County strongly opposes any attempt to infringe upon our most basic right and freedom as an American citizen. Our right to vote goes to the very fabric of who we are as a country. While attacking our most basic freedom of voting, the Green Bay Finance Committee is telling our elderly, shut-ins, poor, disabled and non-political citizens that they need to jump through hoops to exercise this basic right to vote.
We ask the Green Bay Finance Committee (of all committees) how much is this law going to cost us at time of economic distress? Will that cost be worth the effort since this was the fist case of voter fraud in Green Bay’s history? We also ask how many rights will you take away from your constituents at the polls for clerical or financial reasons to prevent possible future fraud? The Green Bay Finance Committee and the Green Bay City Council should think about all the citizens of Green Bay before passing a resolution attacking our most basic right and freedom.
