Democrat Dr. Montgomery 'Monk' Elmer GreenBayProgressive.com
Elected Officials - Monday, August 17, 2009

Kimberly – Today at the Kimberly Civic Center and Library Dr. Montgomery Elmer announced his candidacy for the 1st State Senate District.  Dr. Elmer, affectionately nicknamed “Monk” by his patients, spoke about his experience on the frontlines of the health care and education systems, and promised a new “Prescription for Progress.”  Joined by family, friends, and supporters, Dr. Elmer talked about the need for fresh new ideas in Madison.

“It’s time that we start working together to find innovative new solutions to the problems that face our families, our businesses, and our communities,” said Dr. Elmer.  “That’s where my prescription for progress comes in.”

Dr. Elmer’s “Prescription for Progress” includes bringing new, family supporting jobs to Northeast Wisconsin, guaranteeing access to affordable health care, and giving kids the world class education that they deserve.  He believes this can only be accomplished by bringing together Republicans and Democrats and forging real bi-partisan compromise that puts the needs of hardworking Wisconsin families first.

Monk was joined at his announcement by Wisocnsin State Senator Dave Hansen of Green Bay, who praised Dr. Elmer’s plans for progress:

“Northeast Wisconsin needs Montgomery Elmer in the State Capitol,” said Hansen.  “Monk will fight to ensure that our region of the state gets its fair share of economic development dollars and the resources needed to create good jobs.”

Dr. Elmer has served as a family Physician in Kimberly for over 20 years, and was named “Wisconsin Family Physician of the Year” in 1998.  He currently serves at the President of the Kimberly School Board, and has been active in his community for years.  He and his wife Pat live in Kimberly, and have 3 Children, two in college and one in his Junior year in high school.

The current 1st District State Senator, Alan Lasee, has told sources he has not yet made a decision on whether to run for another term.
