I just finished delivering my first State of the Union address.

I set out an urgent plan for restoring economic security for struggling middle class families. This is my top priority, but I cannot do it alone -- and that's why I'm writing to you now.

Tonight, I called on Congress to enact reforms and new initiatives to defend the middle class -- to create millions of new jobs, support small businesses, and drive up wages; to invest in the education of our children and the clean energy technology that must power our future; and to protect the economy from reckless Wall Street abuses.

Grant to Train Nearly 3,000 for Jobs

Feingold Urges Obama To Address Deficit, Jobs

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Russ Feingold is urging President Obama to address deficit reduction and job creation in his upcoming State of the Union address.  Feingold has made controlling government spending and job creation two of his top legislative priorities for 2010.  To address skyrocketing federal deficits, Feingold recently introduced the Control Spending Now Act, legislation made up of more than 40 proposals to reduce the deficit by about one half trillion dollars.  In a letter to the president, Feingold acknowledged that President Obama had inherited perhaps “the worst domestic economic mess” since the Great Depression and stated the importance of putting the government’s fiscal policies on a sustainable course.

“On this Christmas Eve, everyone in America is a winner.   The Senate just made history by passing life saving insurance reform legislation to begin to secure access to care for all of us,” Dr. Kagen said.  “Yesterday, a woman came up to me while shopping for gifts and said all she wanted for Christmas was a health care bill that would cover her family and small business employees.  Well, the Congress was listening and responded.”
