It is not working
Although Wisconsin gained 9,100 jobs over the last year, we have
LOST 15,900 jobs for the two years after Walker took office (from 2,744,800 to 2,728,900).
But, the first 6 months of 2011, before Act 10 kicked in, had a healthy
gain up to 2,775,100. That is a gain of 31,100 for the first 6 months
before Walker's policies took effect (10th best in the nateion). So we actually have lost from 2,775,100
down to 2,728,900 or a loss of 46,200
jobs in the 18 months following Act 10. This puts us 50th
in the nation. A distant 50th - the 49th state lost
6,700 jobs.
Jobs were recovering nicely before Act 10 (2,815,400
Jan 2009). After Walker’s budget went
into effect, Wisconsin’s employment went down to where they were at the bottom
of the recession (low point for recession 2,713,700 in Nov 2009, 2,716,800 in
July 2012, and a close second low of 2,719,400 in Nov 2011). They are still not recovering at 2,728,900 for
Dec 2012. In the
16 months before Act 10, Wisconsin gained 371,000 jobs, best in the nation and
far ahead of #2 (Hawaii had gain of 210,700).
